In 1880, a great fire swept through Kitakata. Only the warehouses (kura) — built with thick lime plaster — survived. The townspeople rebuilt their homes as kura, and the town was reborn as the "Town of Storehouses."
From their unyielding spirit and the pure water of the Iide Mountains, five tiny spirits were born. They are the Kuramori-tai — the Guardians of Kitakata.
